Sweetheart Açaí Bowl




Originated in Brazil, Açaí Bowls are colorful, delicious, and packed with nutrients. The abundance of frozen fruit tastes sweet and is a healthy substitute for a bowl of sugary and processed ice cream (although that is what makes ice cream amazing). Starting out your morning with an Açaí bowl is definitely a breakfast of champions! In addition, Açaí bowls are super fun to make. You get a chance to get creative in the kitchen and experiment with an unlimited amount of flavors. Throw any type of fruit in the blender such as bananas all the way to pineapple and back to mangos; you name it! Also, don't even get me started with the beautiful toppings you can design on top of your bowl. Delicious plus fun to make? Count me in!

  • Açaí is an inch long dark purple berry
  • Like I mentioned before, Açaí bowls are full of nutrients such as antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fiber, protein, and healthy fats. Read here to dive deeper into the health benefits of Açaí bowls! 
  • The key to making the perfect texture of an Açaí bowl is... frozen fruits. Whether you buy them frozen at your local grocery store or freeze them yourself, as long as they are frozen. Another important note in achieving a thick consistency is to add as little liquid as possible if not your bowl will turn out as soup :(  Click here for a step by step guide to consistency and texture of an Açaí bowl! My last tip for you is to make sure you do not let the frozen fruit sit out too long before it is blended because this will lead to defrosting fruit. 
Now, let's get down to business. For ANY Açaí bowl recipe, you NEED to include frozen Açaí... duhhh. I buy my frozen Açaí packets at my local target. Although, I'm sure any food store near you carries frozen Açaí even if it is a different brand than the one I use which is the Sambazon Açaí Superfruit Packs Zero Sugar (shown above). 

Now that we established that, it's recipe time! In a reliable blender, add 1 frozen Açaí packet, 1 large ripe frozen banana, 1 medium frozen kiwi, 1 cup frozen blueberries, 1 cup frozen strawberries, and 1/4 cup + 5 tablespoons of any type of milk you desire.  Blend it all together and the consistency should look something like this... 


If it doesn't, don't worry, you may have over blended so blend on low and just add more frozen fruit! 

Now, the fun part. Spoon your finished mixture into a bowl and let your creativity flow! Add an endless amount of toppings or maybe none, whatever you prefer. The toppings I chose for this particular bowl were half of a sliced banana, strawberries cut into hearts, peach slices, rolled oats, honey, and a nut blend I purchased from my local Dollar Tree (shown below). 
Now, for the final product; drumroll, please........
