I took normal chocolate chip cookies but made them thicker, chewier, softer, and sooo much better. Eating cookie dough in the shape of a bar really changes the game! You'll also love this recipe because it's a lot easier than your basic Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe. For instance, there's no chill time required and you don't need to roll the cookie dough into balls before you begin baking. Just combine these ingredients together in a bowl real quick, pop a baking dish in your oven, and voilà, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ready to be cut into bars!
Why these Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars are better than cookies...
- Put together with basic baking ingredients
- No need for chilling the cookie dough
- No spreading while in the oven
- No cookie dough rolling
- No need for an electric mixer
- Not too many bowls required
What are the ingredients that make these bars so amazing...
- All-purpose Flour- Now, this ingredient is a must for obvious reasons
- Baking Soda- This ingredient helps in the rising process
- Salt- Flavor, flavor, flavor
- Cornstarch- The reason for the thickness, chewiness, and delicateness. So, thank you Cornstarch
- Butter- Well, because butter makes every recipe better
- Sugar- This recipe includes both Granulated Sugar and Brown Sugar which ensures moisture
- Vanilla EXTRAct- Adds a little EXTRA sweetness. See what I did there ;)
- Chocolate Chips- Do I even have to explain myself here?
- Eggs- Makes these cubes rich
Baking dish preparation & size...
My best tip to give you for this recipe is to line your baking dish with either aluminum foil or parchment paper, making sure you leave some extra hanging over the dish. This is a very helpful note because once your bars are cooled, you can just lift up the entire chocolate chip bar by the excess aluminum foil or parchment paper, and begin cutting out your cubes!
Now, let's talk about the size of your baking dish. You have two good options; you can use a 9-inch baking dish or a 9x13. But, before you go ahead and bring out your 9x13 baking dish you will need to make 2 batches of batter to fit and be thick enough for this size of a dish. In addition, since there is more batter, you will want to bake your cookie dough for longer. Read my recipe notes to find out exactly how long you will need to bake them. If you are using a 9-inch, one batch will be just fine.
The color and detail of these Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars fresh out my oven are mouth-watering! I mean just look at those crispy edges and vivid patter from the brown sugar!!! I am resisting the urge to skip the cooling process altogether and instead grab a fork and eat straight from the baking pan.
